Being too religious

In the being too religious lecture, I found it a bit strange at the start of the lecture when the lecturer started praying. However , when he told us why he started off with a prayer, I think it was a interesting way to start the lecture. I personally do not belong to any religious group and get rather offend when people stop me in the street are try to force their religion on to me. I believe that people should respect other people's religious beliefs and cultures even if they do not agree with what their religion teaches. I also believe creates segregation to a certain extent. I be believe that religion also creates conflict because throughout history wars have started because of so-called religious beliefs and disagreements between two religions.

Illegal Drugs

I think illegal drugs will always be a problem in society, because I think people use drugs as a way to escape from reality. Drugs such a cannabis is a plant some people will always smoke it because its a plant despite being illegal, however some people say that cannabis has some health benefis , doctors claim that long-term cannabis use can lead to schizophrenia. Drugs such as ectasy are poplular among clubbers, ectasy is usec some clubbers feel alet and can dance akll noght. Although people can die when they first take ecstasy. Young people may view taking drugs as a way of having fun asnd peer pressure can also be a reson why people start to take drugs. Some people are also curious about what is may feel like to be high off crack or cannabis, so therefore i think drugs will always be part of some people's lifestyle.

Body modifications

The lecture on body modifications I really enjoyed, the only body modifications I have is an ear piercing. I don't have any tattoo's never really been interested in having a tattoo the idea of having a mark on me for the rest of life doesn't appeal to me. In my experience I knew people who got tattoos before the legal age are this made them feel like a rebel. I know of people who have tattoos of their children's name. I think people get addicted to piercing and tattoos. Some gang members get tattoos to symbolise their gang membership. The body modification I do not agree with is female circumcision. I think this is used to control women and is not morally right because female circumcision is carried out on female children as young as five. Countries who culture it is to circumcise females argue that a women is impure and unclean and they would not eligible for marriage. I found that lower-back tattoos are popular among young women, men tend not to have lower-back tattoos as much as women. I think when people have unusual tattoos or extreme piercings, they are trying to express their individuality.

Bandits and Outlaws

I found the lecture on Bandits and outlaws particularly interesting to learn more about the famous characters such as such as Robin hood, Bonnie and Clyde and Jesse James. i personally think Robin hood was like a hero to the poor, and felt he was fighting for a cause. however, Jesse James are would not called a hero for the poor because he killed so many people. It's makes me wonder why we have a culture that seems to glamorise gang culture and gangsters. I believe that violent computer games and violent movies have an influence on people and influence culture particularly for the youth. Films has been made about Robin Hood and Bonnie and Clyde. A recent movie about Jesse James was released in 2007 starting Brad Pitt. The film was titled "The assassination of Jesse James".

Scarface based on the gangster Al Capone gangster movie came to mind, many people have watched the movie and i think its glamorise violence and gang culture. A lot of people are familiar with the quote from the movie "Say hello to my little friend". It makes me wonder why so many people enjoy watching violent movies based on famous gangster when murders are clearly wrong.

Masturbation

The lecture on masturbation made me feeling slightly uncomfortable for the whole two hours. I think masturbation is still a taboo subject something that people rarely speak openly about. I think people in the lecture particularly enjoyed sharing the different terms they use to describe masturbation. I found that the survey even thought it was anonymous to be a invasion of privacy, because masturbation is something that is usually done in public. i was shocked to find out the first time people masturbated was between the ages of 0-9 years old. Masturbation is expected more from males, its less expected from females. However, the handout given in the lecture prove wrong, because its was about female accounts of masturbation. i think that masturbation will always remain a taboo subject and something people do not feel comfortable openly discussing.

Smoking

Nowadays, smokers know the health risks of smoking but yet many teenagers take up smoking during school years. I think teenagers in school, view smoking as a sort of rebellion. teenagers may take up smoking to fit in with their friends or feel they appear "cool". Others may take up smoking out of curiosity or they feel it's a way for them to relax. Celebrities smoking in movies may encourage teenagers to smoke because they will then view smoking as glamorous and sexy.

I personally was glad when smoking was banned from public places on 1st July 2007 because that meant i wouldn't come home from a club or restaurant smelling of cigarettes when I am a non-smoker.

Infidelity

I found the lecture on infidelity interesting. It was interesting to hear people's views on infidelity, people spoke about certain films and books they knew to do with infidelity. However, I feel infidelity is unacceptable regardless of the situation , if people are not happy in relationship people should let their partner know instead risk hurting their partners feeling. I enjoyed watching the videos that were shown in the lecture about infidelity. Some may argue their are reasons behind infidelity such as the passion in the relationship is no longer there or some feel that having an affair adds excitement to their lives. However, i feel you cannot truly love your partner if you know that infidelity would hurt them deeply.
